Flood Management

Mercer County is prone to flooding due to localized heavy downpours of rain. High water is often reported along the Bluestone River and other areas of the county. Typically, when rainfall amounts are between 1 and 1.5 inches it would create an insignificant rise on area creeks streams and rivers. But when there is a combination of elements such as moderate rain, saturated ground from continuous heavy rainfall, heavy snow on the ground and warm temperatures, flood waters will rise. When this occurs, many Mercer County residents are cut off due to flood waters.
